Uncoated Freesheet Increase Being Implemented

The shutdown of IP’s Courtland mill had sparked a 2nd Uncoated Freesheet increase announcement. The amount of the increase, $3.50/CWT, was a testament to how tight the producers thought the market would be after the complete closure of the mill. The increases implemented have been much less than the max; however, the overall increases that customers have paid since October of last year have been significant. The gap between Uncoated Freesheet pricing and Uncoated Hi-brite Groundwood pricing has grown enough to fuel talk of additional substitution of Groundwood for Freesheet.
